FAQ
Recording Club is for artists who are ready to treat their work as a priority.
You do not need perfect timing, total certainty, or ideal conditions. In many cases, structure and commitment are what help the work take shape.
You do not need to feel fully ready. You need to be willing to set aside the time and show up.
Recording Club is a one-year membership (June through May) that includes one Self-Led Artist Habitat stay each year, along with ongoing access to the broader IAH community and programming.
You do not need to choose exact dates when you purchase your membership.
After joining, you’ll receive a scheduling link to propose preferred date windows. Artist Habitat stays are confirmed based on availability, and bookings are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis.
The earlier you submit your preferred windows, the more flexibility you’ll have.
You do not need to arrive with a fully mapped project.
Recording Club is not prescriptive about outcomes. Some artists arrive with a clear project plan, while others come in with sketches, questions, or the need for focused time away from their usual routine.
Both can be useful starting points. Often, the commitment to setting aside the time is what helps the work take shape.
Flexible payment options are available through Shop Pay, allowing you to spread the cost over time.
For context, the Studio Membership works out to roughly $6 per day across the year, about the price of a decent coffee.
For first-time members, IAH also subsidizes a limited number of Access Memberships to help new creatives join the community at a lower entry point.
Recording Club runs on an annual cycle from June through May, and members are encouraged to schedule their Artist Habitat stay well in advance to secure preferred dates.
If unexpected circumstances come up, we’ll work with you directly to explore reasonable scheduling adjustments where possible. Clear communication early on is key.
Recording Club is not just about access to equipment. It is about context, momentum, and community.
Benalto Sound is well-equipped for most professional projects, but the bigger value is the shift in environment. Changing where you work often changes how you work: your focus, your decisions, your willingness to experiment, and the pace at which ideas move.
Even a great home studio can reinforce familiar patterns. An Artist Habitat stay gives you dedicated time away from your usual routine, plus access to a creative community that can lead to new ideas, collaborations, and support that may not happen in isolation.
Yes. Your included Habitat stay is designed for you and your project team. You may bring collaborators at no additional cost. Final rooming and scheduling details are confirmed during onboarding.
You do not need to arrive with a team.
Many artists attend independently. If collaboration is something you are seeking, we can help facilitate connections when appropriate. Support is available, but not imposed.
Yes. Engineer support can be added at published rates and scheduled based on availability.
IAH subsidizes a limited number of Access tier memberships each year to help developing artists step into a professional creative environment.
This is part of our commitment to strengthening the broader creative ecosystem.
Recording Club maintains a limited number of memberships each year to ensure the experience remains focused, personal, and logistically sustainable within the Benalto Sound facility.
Patron Members may choose to use their membership to sponsor a five-night Artist Habitat residency for a developing artist, rather than taking the Artist Habitat stay themselves.
IAH coordinates directly with the sponsored artist to schedule their stay and provide support before, during, and after the residency so they can make the most of their time at Benalto Sound.
